| well here goes...
xanga - you have been so good to for the past 6.5 years. thank you for letting me capture the good times and the bad times, the visuals, the words, the thoughts and well, everything in between. i've blogged my transition from the bay area to southern california and have recorded all the experiences i've gone through ever since. every now and then i like to flip back on my blogs and re-live that moment. it's quite refreshing.
thank you to my subscribers, friends and to anyone else who still reads this. i started xanga to chronicle my growth when i ventured out of my comfort zone and moved out on my own. a lot has happened since 2003 and i look forward for making more memories.
my schedule the past year has been so crazy, that i started to fade away from blog writing. i tried starting a blog on Blogger, but that didn't quite stick to me. i decided i wanted to continue blogging but to transition onto a different site. new year - new things has been my theme for 2009. i discovered TUMBLR last year and i officially started a TUMBLR blog account just recently.. and i think i'll be stickin with that for a while. i dont tend to do detailed posts anymore, but instead, my new blog will be a collection of things that i am inspired by, things that i admire - from pieces of art, quotes, music, photographs and well - random thoughts and work from me.
you can get to know more of me at http://philupland.tumblr.com - enjoy!
thank you xanga again, for all the memories! who knows maybe ill return and write a random blog. in the mean time, i'll just resort to reading my past blogs if i want to do a quick flashback into memory lane.
signing off, with love - philup

| A few changes for 2009, in terms of financial stability, goals and planning:
1) Pay myself every month and stick to it (aka continue to add money to savings) 2) Stop buying shit i want and NOT need 3) Stick to grocery shopping as much as possible as opposed to eating out all the time 4) Reward myself and use money for "experiences" (i.e. traveling, bars with friends, weekend getaways, etc) and not materialistic items 5) Finish my 2009 financial calendar / chart
Gah this economy. Fortunately, my company has not been affected as much as other major big companies by this economic hurricane. We have been taking vital steps and are actually opening up doors for great possibilities and opportunities to help other potential clients take advantage of social media marketing to enhance their advertising.
Looking forward to hitting up the Bay for a quick getaway at the end of the month. This time, ill be a spectator at Battlefest, supporting my former team and of course, my sister.
Upcoming shows: Raise The Roof Benefit Concert, VENT 2nd Annual Dance Awards, CSLA Benefit Show, CSULB PCN (PAC Generations comeback!)...Yep my body is going to be busy sweating and rocking the floors in the next few months!
oh wow i just realized im turning 28 this year..wow. someone press rewind and take me back to 21.

| January's been pretty fun so far...
Weekend of the 2nd - 4th: Arrived back in the LBC and went straight to the CSLA Artistic Board retreat to drink, eat and discuss the upcoming benefit show plans. Good times...we've got a dope production coming up.
Weekend of the 9th - 10th: Friday night, hosted a New Year's White Elephant gathering with the long beach crew consisting of friends from the bay to la and all the way to sd, and reuniting some of the original Downtown Fullerton heads who started the DTF movement in early 2007. i can't believe it died down for us and we somewhat grew out of it. but one of these days we shall all make a comeback. maybe sooner than we think. anyway the white elephant party was really fun and everyone had good ugly sweaters for the occasion. i love these guys and im lookin forward to a lot of future trips/gatherings this year with them (camping summer 09!!!)
Saturday: went to Big Bear and reunited with the SNOW!!! i guess i still have it. snowboarding was awesome. a fun group, a sunny-ass day, a great work out. and topped it off with a well-deserved dinner at Banana Bay to an awesome live band that sang old school r&b songs from the 90s. the next day, we continued our weekend at National's and watched the Chargers vs. Steelers game and got buzzed off Coors Light fish tanks. definitely a great weekend.
Weekend of the 16th - 18th: Watched NOTORIOUS at Bella Terra in Huntington Beach. Good movie - brought me back to my high school days. B.I.G. was the sh*t and i still got love for him. Saturday, Rosie-Bot came down from SD and had korean bbq with keonna and florida, then went to Golden Spoon at Cerritos Towne Center and made fun of all the winterball high school students who were taking one-hour photos next door. Some of those dresses were just seriously wtf status. Later at night pre-drank at my house with Whitey, Trash & Florida and then partied at the Carfax house with the new pac modern team. good loud times - almost as fun as when i was on the team and how we used to party back in the day. got so buzzed we had to take a taxi back home. Sunday was CSLA's H4 (hip hop has history) workshops that lasted all day and ended with an amazing entertaining "props" battle. Definitely inspired to train even harder!! Discussion panel was so refreshing and educational from Zulu Gremlin to Poe-1 and Anthony Thomas - wow. Ended the night with an AWESOME drunken bowling session at Lucky Strike at the Block with the LB heads.
Two more weekends to go...Vibe coming up this Sunday and a PAC Modern alumni mixer at the end of the month. Maybe squeeze in some photography sessions and shooting somewhere in there. In between all the mentioned weekends, work has been pretty good and movement project has started up again on tuesday nights. i donated a piece to pac modern's upcoming competition set and one night i ended up staying till 330am, and then paid for it at work. Ugh...i don't think i can handle doing that again.
Looking forward to our Mammoth trip in March!!!! And my old dance crew FUSION is having a special 10 year reunion/banquet and special performance later in August. Definitely looking forward to reuniting with the bay folks i used to dance with. Speaking of reunions - damn, it's my 10 year high school reunion later this year too! AAHHH! 10 years since high school ......shit..i gotta write another entry for this one. let me organize some thoughts first...
Damn you work for having work on MLK day...double ugh! | | |
| Ok as usual, my end of the year recap. I know I've been in and out of Xanga this past year, and have not written blogs as continuously as I did in past years but hey – im still here right? That should say something. Yeah I'm a dedicated Xanga member, but at this point, there's obviously something more to this blogging experience to make me keep coming back. I started Xanga in 2003 (about a month befor I turned 22) – and I'm going on my seventh year as an active member. I'm considering creating another blog separate from this, but one that will touch more on photo-blogging and photography posts as opposed to daily written rambles. I'll keep this going, but will stay more on entries surrounding random thoughts and experiences worth blogging about. Like i've said before, it's SO REFRESHING, and wonderful to go into my past blogs from the past 6 years to read, reminice and reflect on past experiences. Honestly, it's just another awesome way of looking back at my growth. This has been year 7, and an end to chapter 2008. What can I say about this year? One word – FAST. That word reflects on quite a few things I've experienced in 2008. This year, someone pressed the fast forward button on the remote control. I feel like I was just in January (stuck and snowed in Big Bear Mountain overnight inside a car haha) and blinked into December. WTF? Regardless, this year was pretty good. Had its ups and downs, a few things i coulda done without. But we all have obstacles - it's life. A lot happened actually, now that i think about it. Lot's of "first time" experiences. Lot's of work-related stress. Big new exciting projects equaled up to great amounts of pressure, long nights and extra responsibilities. This was the first ENTIRE year that I was not a part of PAC Modern, my former collegiate dance team that sucked the life out of me (in a good way of course). I had a lot of FREEDOM – and I took advantage of it. Lessons learned, new interests and lots of living like it was the world was going to end the next day. A few select highlights... 1) Successfuly helped produce "A Beautiful Struggle" benefit Show, first time being a Visual Arts Coordinator and a part of Culture Shock LA's Artistic Board 2) Spent lots of time with family - lots of Bay Trips, family visits, sisters graduations from high school and junior college, Katrina moving to Long Beach and making PAC Modern, having two family trips to Disneyland and California Adventure 3)Creating my 2nd dance project, Movement Project and reuniting oldies and alumni i used to dance with 4) Investing more time and practice into photography 5) Crazy memorable Las Vegas trips with the most funnest group of friends to experience it with 6) Reuniting with a few long lost friends from the Bay 7) Receiving an early promotioanl raise at work 8) Cutting down on DTF and discovering other lounges, spots and new bars 9) Fun and interesting company mixers and client events 10) Investing and purchasing my first Ipod (finally) and first laptop, the brand new Macbook (i heart APPLE!) 10) Continuing a successful 2nd year of my first dance project, Freedom Junkies 12) Maintaining a close knit group of awesome friends i know i'll be growin up with in the years to come .....and well, lots of other fun things that made 2008 an eventful year. This year, i was able to balance out and maintain healthy family time, friends time and alone time. I've shared and created wonderful unforgettable experiences with friends and family. I plan to continue this healthy streak of memories in the next year. so right now, im currently back home in Pittsburg as i write this and i just spent a few hours going through the old photo albums. lots of memories. time sure does fly. basically, there's a lot of change i've gone thru but in the end, i just gotta keep living like there ain't no tomorrow. Onto my 28th year of living on this Earth and for this, i am thankful. And now it's time to bring it. and im ready. it's time to shine even brighter....2009 is going to be fiiiiiine. Wishing all those in my life good health and extended happiness in 2009 cheers to life!! | | |
| It's foggy right now. I like it. Reminds me of San Francisco, more specifically Daly City.
So i'm inside It's A Grind right now on my BRAND SPANKIN NEW MACBOOK! (which i love love love) doing some research for work. Yep i finally own a laptop. I felt so behind in electronics (i just got an Ipod this year) so i figured why not start with a top of the line product. Took my sister to the Apple store @ SouthCoast, talked to an Apple Genius who answered all my questions and boom - i was ready to purchase. This was definitely a pricey choice i made, but knew that this would be a good investment. I had been researching, getting opinions and debating on what type of laptop/brand to get for probably a year. I ended up going for brand new model of the Apple Macbook - sexy, sleek, strong, intelligent, advanced and just plain awesome. Too many cool features i am still discovering. Working with a MAC desktop at work helped out a lot in gaining knowledge on how to use this thing. This is definitely my Xmas present to myself.
Tonight it's off to Hollywood for Culture Shock LA's Expo event and after-party lounge. This weekend has been non-stop action. Last night it was Arlene, Brenna and Juliette's birthday bash @ Sachi's. The birthday girls eventually started barfing one by one and were kicked out. Then everyone else started dropping like flies. Hilarious. What a long night. Tomorrow should be fun too. I'll be debuting Movement Project's new set "Jazz Remedy Cafe" @ the Kreative Movement Inspire Showcase.
I CANNOT CANNOT wait to go back home to the Bay for Thanksgiving. This will be a nice little getaway. I miss home, the family, and i got plenty of catchin up to do with some of the homies back home. If i don't get thru my long list, i'll continue it on during Xmas break.
Is it just me or has 2008 suddenly flew 200 mph past our heads. Where has this year gone..im going to have to recap on this one soon. Geez..2009 already?
